A Review of EVERYDAY POETRY by Jennifer Morrissette

Poetry is a personal medium, revealing much about the poet. In her inaugural collection, Everyday Poetry, aptly subtitled, Looking on the Bright Side of Life, Jennifer Morrissette welcomes you into her life.

The poems vary in subject and style, and I enjoyed being introduced to forms which I am less familiar with, such as the cinquain, limerick, and what she refers to as "Original Poems in the Mersterian Style."

She uses a variation also in the weight of the subjects of her poetry, so some are very entertaining while others induce a sense of worship. One example of the first is "O Happy Day!" and of the second, "Clothed in Immortality."

In the introduction on the back cover, this book is called "a short anthology of encouragement." It is, and I hope Morrissette produces subsequent volumes.

My own book manuscripts

I wrote two devotional books when we lived in CA: Slices of Bread: Daily Grace for Women and Daily Grace in the Hands of my Sovereign Father.
I've worked on more since we moved to KY: Still More Slices of Bread, Various Studies in Various Scripture Passages, and Journey Mercies--my memoir.
